Melissa Barna, M.S.W., L.C.S.W.
We all want to be happy, healthy, and understood but life often presents unexpected challenges that create stress, resurface old hurts, or stir up painful memories. Regardless of what leads you to seek therapy, finding a professional with whom you can form a meaningful relationship with is the first step. I would be honored if you chose to collaborate with me on your own personal journey of discovery.
With over 25 years of practice experience, I have worked effectively with a diverse group of individuals, couples, and families by integrating multiple orientations including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness practices, and traditional psychotherapeutic approaches.
I have significant experience working with anxiety and depressive disorders, self-esteem issues, parenting skills, sexuality, decision-making, and significant life transitions. Through my experience in inpatient hospital settings, I have acquired expertise with maternal and infant care difficulties including postpartum and antepartum depression, as well as infant mortality and bereavement. I have also dedicated eleven years to working in the law enforcement field in the juvenile bureau by working with adolescents and their families in crisis.
I received an M.S.W. from Rutgers University's Graduate School of Social Work and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I work as a Student Assistance Specialist in a public school setting and have maintained a private practice for over ten years. I am confident that our work together will be insightful and will produce meaningful change.
